The temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are our most sacred buildings.

Many people that have never been in a Mormon temple suspect that there are strange things that happen inside, and that’s why we keep those things secret. They are not secret, however, they are sacred.

Inside the temples members participate in sacred ordinances such as eternal marriage. This is done by priesthood authority which enables the marriage to be effective even after death. It is done by the authority that the Savior described to Peter in this way: “Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19).  Temple marriage is not “till death do us part.”

Another ordinance performed in the temples is called baptism for the dead. Click here to learn more about it.

In order to enter the temples, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints must be worthy. They obtain a temple recommend after interviews concerning worthiness with their priesthood leaders.
