Our certainty comes from answers to prayer. The Book of Mormon contains a promise that we have applied. It says, “We invite all men everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Moroni 10: 3-5.)” (Introduction to The Book of Mormon)

I, personally, have read and prayed about The Book of Mormon, and my prayer was answered. I felt an assurance come to me through the Spirit that I can’t deny. I know that The Book of Mormon is the word of God. After I learned that for myself, I learned other things through the same spirit. Among them, I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet, and that our modern day prophet, Thomas S. Monson, is also a true prophet of God. All my certainty, and the certainty of other members of the Church, comes from the fact that we have asked God, and He has answered.

We invite all men everywhere to study and ask God for themselves. “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7.)
